Rose 2.43: Crosshairs

Willow pulls back from my arms. I let her because I no longer fear she will leave.
"I will talk to Mama. I want you to stop living in the little house," I tell her decidedly. I want to hold her again. I haven't felt anything near happiness for a long time, and I'm feeling it now as I look at Willow.
"It's okay, Donovan. You don't have to pretend. I know you want me to stay because of the baby, and I will stay because of the baby, because you want to be a part of its life. But you don't have to make like you carry any affection for me at all." She lightly places her hand on my shoulder to tell me she doesn't want me to embrace her again.

"What are you talking about?" I ask, unable to keep from smiling. Another baby! It's wonderful!
"I'll keep living in the little house. We can build a kitchen in it somehow, find things at the dump and refurbish them as we go, and we can both be here for the baby."
"Willow, don't be ridiculous." A child needs parents that are a couple. I want to try. I want to throw away any past anger towards Willow and try to be the man she needs.

"You don't love me, and I don't blame you-"
     "Willow, give me a chance..."
"-and I promise to never use my powers against you again," she continues, ignoring my interruption. "But I will not expect anything. I'm not asking for anything. I am only staying because of the child."

"In the beginning, you never needed to use any powers on me, Willow, if that's what you say you did. I have always thought you were beautiful--because you are."
"Until I mentioned I was pregnant, you wanted me to leave. When I walked in here this morning, you were angry that I hadn't yet because you wanted me gone."
"And I was being an ass," I quickly get in.
She tucks her hair behind her ear, unable to look me in the eyes. "You were being just what should be expected of a man that lost the woman he loved, what's to be expected to act towards the person that indirectly caused it to happen."
"You are not the only one at fault. If I had done one thing differently, she wouldn't have been on that plane. There were dozens of things I could've done differently," I admit.
"I should still stay in the little house. It's too soon," she reasons.
"Willow..." I say to get her to look at me. She doesn't, so I reach up and gently hold her cheek. She actually starts in surprise that I'd touch her. "I still want to try. Aren't you curious what could happen between us if you don't use your powers?" Then, I take a half-step towards her and whisper, "I would've still chased you. I would have still wanted you. I would have still been curiously fascinated, wanting to discover who you really are under the masks you wear."

A shaking hand reaches up to move mine off her cheek. I go ahead and let her, knowing she needs to process everything I just revealed. Her eyes search mine. In hers, I find sadness and regret.
"You have...a gift, Don Robles, and you are incredibly stubborn with it. I am curious what could've happened, but I can't trust it today."
"You know what else I was feeling when you walked in here this morning?" I ask her quietly. "If you sensed anger, it was because it made me angry how much I wanted you, how much you affect me without even trying." I take a slow breath in. "Now, there is nothing that makes me angry about it. All I can think is that there is an incredibly sexy woman standing in my bedroom in a very revealing nightgown." I reach up and lightly tug the tie to her robe. My gaze rests on her collarbone, and I want to run my tongue from it up to her chin before diving into that rose-shaped mouth.
Her hand reaches up to halt my achingly-slow progress at untying her gown. Curious, I pause, lifting my eyes to meet hers.
She speaks quietly when she says, "It is a dangerous thing being caught in your crosshairs. So this is what all the other girls experienced."

I drop my hand, freeing her for now, and my gaze moves to the side as I chuckle, remembering. Shauna comes to mind first. I'd fought the hardest to get her. I might've given up, but the need to tell her she was beautiful and make her believe it too drove me on. I hope she's happy, wherever she is.
Bringing myself back to the present moment, I look at Willow again. "All I know is I want you to give me a chance."
"I'll think about it," she replies and steps forward to kiss me on the cheek.
My arm flies around her waist, and I hold her to me. Her bare legs brush against mine, and I want to throw her on my bed and have her now. My thumb traces her cheek. She kissed my cheek; I want to kiss her pretty mouth. Right before I do, however, her hand pushes hard against my chest. Her lips part from her rapid breathing, calling to me. I find myself leaning in again until I feel nails digging into my chest now.
Not like this. I need to win her first. No longer intent on actually kissing her, I move forward again. The nails almost pierce my skin, and she leans back. I have my lips hover near hers, letting her know that I could kiss her but that I won't. Of course, she's welcome to kiss me. Her quick breathing continues while I stay in complete control of myself. I bring my lips very close, but not touching, to her neck, back up to her jawline, and then down to her chest. My hand massages her hip where I hold her to me, and I bring my free hand up to take the one digging its claws into my chest.
With a small smile, I lightly brush my lips against her fingers. She relaxes in my arms, and I let her go. I take a step back, and she turns and flies from the room.

  1. Well I saw that coming. I figured something like this would happen since Donny sure as hell wasn't thinking about protection and Willow sure wasn't with how he came at her.

I'm glad she told him, he did have a right to know. I don't like he jumped from hating her one minute to ready to damn near marry her the next. Seriously Donny take a freaking breather. I'm glad Willow told him no and that they would just co-parent. The question is how long can she keep telling him no?

    1. Mhm, Donny did do that pendulum swing very quickly, going from despising her to wanting as serious as she'd give him. The baby changed everything for him, or, at least, he wants it to.
