Hey! Look! It's the actual heir having a chapter! :P

I thought I'd get some cool new threads to wear to work after my promotion to detective, but I don't. I don't know why. I can't complain. I outrank plenty of people here now. Some of them look at me like 'what makes you so special?' Honestly, I have no idea other than luck.
That jerkface Landgraab got set free. I can't believe it! After I worked so hard to apprehend him, he slips through the rails like a sea serpent thanks to his 'dear old Dad' pulling some strings and dropping the charges.
Things stay quiet, and we all settle into a routine. Claire is almost done with her degree. Mom and Dad give me yet another baby sister! Whoa! Aren't they a little old for that? I mean, it's almost time for them to be thinking grandchildren, not more children. Um, except that would mean that Claire and I would have to have kids. I don't know if I'm anywhere near ready for that...not that I don't love practicing at every available opportunity when she's home.
Then, out of the blue, we get hit by a cyber-attack. Every computer in the building goes out, and the chief gets all his best people working on it--not me, though. I don't have much of an aptitude for electronics.
He calls me into his office.
"I want you to figure out the cause of this attack, Taylor."
My voice squeaks. "Me?" I clear my throat. "Why me?"
"Because I believe you have what it takes to do it old-school. You'll have to since our entire system is down."
Huh? He thinks I can do this? What the plum!
"Yes, sir," I say anyway. Where does he get the idea that I'M the guy to do this old-school?
I try to tell myself that he must believe in me for a reason, and I go out to the bulletin board to ponder what to do. Everyone around me is scrambling to restore the computer system, but I let it go over my head, flow through me and not stick.
Cyber attack. Cyber. Attack. Cyber attack. Why? What's the motive? Obviously, they want into our system or to outright destroy it all. Who could do this? My first thought is Uncle Alex, but I can't figure out WHY he'd want to do something like this. That, and I hate jumping to conclusions. Still. I could ask for his advice.
I haven't seen him in ages. He asks me to meet him at the gym. When I get here, a question hits me.
"Why are you here instead of just working out in your penthouse?"
He punches the bag a few times. "Selena is driving me crazy." When I ask him why, he just shrugs and says they had a fight over where to have the wedding. He doesn't want a big one, but she wants to throw the biggest shindig ever seen in Sims 4.
I decide to stay out of it, wondering how I'd forgotten that he'd gotten engaged. I'm sad he and Aunt Laura divorced. Hm. His fiancee is closer to MY age. I'm NOT calling her 'Aunt' Selena.
He agrees to come in and take a look. When he walks into the station, I notice several pairs of eyes giving him suspicious looks. I'll bet they're thinking that HE'S behind it. I can't blame them. I wouldn't be surprised to find out Uncle Alex could hack into Fort Croc for plum's sake.
He, from a laptop he could use to tap into our corrupted system, pinpoints from where the attack came, and most officers in the station treat him differently, better, happy that he helped. He offers to help get the system back online, and the chief welcomes the help. I think Uncle Alex is just looking for yet another excuse to get out of his house.
Why is he marrying this woman if all he wants to do is escape her presence?
That's a question for another day. I have work to do.

I go to the location where he said the attack came from.
To my utter dismay, I find the Landgraabs in residence.
"I have no idea why you're thinking the attack came from this address. We're only renting the place for a quiet getaway." Mr. Landgraab isn't too happy with me. That makes me sad since it was he who recommended I get that case--in which I arrested his son but anyway. I'm still sad he doesn't like me anymore. "Are you sure you have this right, or are you looking for something else to pin on my family?" He knows I'm upset that Malcolm isn't behind bars.
"Sir, I'm doing my job. I had a top professional trace the attack to this location."
"Well, isn't that convenient for you." He scowls. "No one here has done anything but various internet searches and Facebook."
The other officers and I agree that it would probably be best for them to get statements from the Landgraabs. I busy myself taking pictures. Although...I don't know what random graffiti is going to do to help us figure out the basis for a cyber attack--but it's part of the job.
While everyone else works on getting the system set back up, Uncle Alex gets me a computer hooked into its own network or whatever he calls it. Isolated but with internet--You got me; I don't understand it. But I'm happy I have something to use. With Uncle Alex's help, I hack into the Landgraabs' network. I need to figure out why they would want to do this. I have my suspicions, but I have to prove it.
After fixing the spice festival problem the night before (game issue), I'm very tired. I foolishly decide to take a nap in the lobby.
"Yes, I would like to file a harassment complaint," I hear from a familiar voice.
"Against who?"
"That lout asleep on the bench over there."
I get up.
"Deciding to come back where you belong, Malcolm?" I'm still mad about that.
"Unfortunately, I have to come to place where you work in order to file a complaint. We're being unlawfully investigated."
I laugh meanly. "You just made that up. If you're being investigated, it's for a good reason."
"No, I have proof that our system was hacked into from a computer on this premises." He turns back to the receptionist. "My rights are being violated."
"What rights?" I snap, not liking him ignoring me.
"Privacy."
The complaint gets processed. Did Uncle Alex help me do something that's illegal? What will I do if I can't get into their system? What will I do if I can't USE the stuff I already have? I'm convinced it's the family using a third party to do their dirty work. I just have to trace it to them. Sure, I could arrest the guy that actually did the hacking, but I'd rather get the Landgraabs on it.
Malcolm's little stunt sets me back almost to square one. Ugh! This is so frustrating! I know it came from them, but how can I prove it without him putting me into a constant checkmate?
I'm really looking forward to Claire coming home this weekend.
Being married definitely has its perks. Woohoo tops that list. Claire and I do it every opportunity we have.
I enjoy every bit of my free Sunday. The Landgraabs can wait. Uncle Alex got the system back online, but now everyone is trying to repair the damage. Some files were lost.
Claire has to go back to college Monday morning, and I'm not happy.
We get up extra early so she can catch her flight. After I wake up, she comes into the bedroom already dressed, having taken her shower already.
"Oh good. You're sitting down," she says.
"Yeah. Why?" Why does she want to make sure I'm sitting down? Is this her way of saying that she's about to tell me she can't come home again for another month? I mean, I knew this would be hard, but I just want her home. Is that too much to ask?
"Well, I wasn't sure, and I didn't want to tell you until I was sure."
"Spill it, Claire. Go ahead and tell me." Life is not going like I want it to.
"I'm pregnant!"

Yeah, so, I'll go ahead and say I haven't any real clue whether or not any of this would be probable in real life--Malcolm's complaint about being hacked into. But this is my reality, so there ya go. (Frankly, I don't care one way or the other--I needed something for the storyline.)
