We'll be backing up a bit to just after Emily was born. I wanted to keep all the Alex stuff together and start generation 2 at this point.
Oh, and fasten your seat belts. This chapter flies. Ethan is a teen by the end of it!

Ethan Taylor
My parents are so weird. And for some reason, my mom came home in the hospital gown.
My eyes move to the baby bed. Inside that thing is my little sister. I acted all happy and stuff when Mom told me she was going to have a baby. I mean, we already knew that thanks to the crazy aliens, right? But Mom looked like she really wanted me to be happy, so I looked happy.
It's pretty cool I'm a big brother and all, but I wish the baby was a boy. What am I supposed to do with a baby sister?
My life continues almost like she's not even here. Well, except I don't see Dad as much, and that makes me sad.
Thankfully, Dad finally remembers he also has a son, and we go to the park!
Claire is here! She smiles at me and without asking knows exactly what I wanna do.
SPACE PIRATES!
"Get him! There he is!" she yells from the bridge.
I stand at the gunning station and ask, "Where?!"
"Right THERE, monkey boy!" she squeals.
Dad jumps up and starts growling like a space monster. I fire bubbles at him but pretend they're really laser rockets.
"I got 'im!" I yell out, and Claire starts whooping in victory while Dad falls over, pretending to get shot down.
Dad 'comes back to life' a few more times, but he's no match for Claire and me.
The next day, Dad asks me to watch Emily for a minute while he goes to the bathroom. Why does she need watching anyway? Whatever.
"Maybe you'll be cool like Claire and not like all the other annoying girls. Maybe I can save you from being annoying since you have the coolest big brother ever!" I tell her.
She blows bubbles with her spit, and I decide to take that as a response.
I laugh. "That's right!" I blow a raspberry. "Take that to all the annoying girls!"
We have an intense debate using nothing but spit. I think there's hope for Emily.
Then, Emily grows up. She's no longer interested in having conversations with spit. In fact, when I blow a raspberry at her, she looks back at me like she thinks I'm an interesting creature, not funny or annoying just interesting.
Time goes by, and I decide to create another category for girls. Let's see, there's the typical one most girls fall into: annoying. Then, there's the cool ones: Claire. I'm sure there must be other cool ones out there. I just haven't found any. Then, there's another one: Emily. She smiles at the strangest times like she's in her own world. I take these moments to try to catch her off guard, thinking she's not paying attention. But she is. She doesn't miss anything!
Uncle Alex gets married. I'm glad. Then, before we know it, they have a kid! It's a boy named Drake. I get really happy, thinking I'm going to make a new friend.
But he's more interested in being friends with Emily. I guess that's okay. I'm going to be a teen soon anyway.
"Drake said he'd be my best friend if I did his homework," Emily tells me.
I look up at her. "Oh no. Please don't tell me you fell for that." Maybe my baby sister does need me.
She smiles. "It doesn't matter. I did it anyway. Took me five minutes and that's only because I double-checked everything."
Emily and I are in the same class. She skipped all the lower grade classes and is almost in the teen classes like me. I sit and struggle with pre-algebra, and she zips through it only to sit and ponder the questions again for no reason.
She glances up at my paper. I'm stuck on a problem. She reads it even though it's upside down to her and says, "The answer is forty-two."
"What? No it isn't. Forty-two is right here. It's part of the question. Why would they do that?"
She sighs. "Because they're trying to trick you. The rest of the equation cancels itself out."
I stare at it. "Huh," I finally say. She's right.
"I can't wait until my birthday! Then I'll be smarter than you," I state happily.
"No you won't," she says in a normal voice like she's not arguing but is stating a simple fact.
"Yes I will."
"No you won't."
"Yes I will."
"No you won't."
"Yes I will!" I yell, and Mom tells me to stop arguing and do my homework.
Emily looks up at me and smiles. She doesn't do it in an I'm-your-sister-and-got-you-in-trouble kind of way. She actually looks ordinary kind of happy.
She shrugs. "Maybe he is."
My mouth drops. No way! My little sister CAN'T have a boyfriend! And Drake is like our cousin! EW!
"Ew! That's gross! I was KIDDING!" This isn't happening. I'll stop this right now.
"Mo-om!" I call out.
Emily tells me in a quiet voice, "That's it, Ethan. Go ahead."
I look at my sister as Mom calls out, "What?"
I quickly change my mind on what to say. "I want a blue cake!"
Finally! It's my birthday! I'm so jealous Claire aged up before me. At least I age up before Branden.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He looks entirely too much like Brielle's father Jett with the hairstyle he had immediately upon aging up.

Ethan aged up nicely. Hopefully he'll find himself a friend since his sister isn't really an option and neither is Drake.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm very happy with him.
DeleteHe has friends. The boy with the greenish glasses is Branden in his party outfit and the redhead is Claire. :)
