Where was I? Oh yeah. Claire. I found her in the entryway to Halvsies talking to Justin. I think I surprised him when I walked up and just grabbed her like I did. Uh, guess I forgot to tell my new friend that I had a girlfriend. That's weird because Justin kept talking about girls when I was at his house. No biggie. I'm sure he gets it now.
That does remind me of stuff, though.
I turn around and introduce the two of them, even if they've already been talking to each other while I tried once again in vain to get Branden to ask Raina out.
I wanna introduce Justin to Kelsie.
I walk in and find everyone dancing to the speaker on the wall. This place really needs a DJ. Or maybe we all need to go to a place with a DJ.
Everyone ignores the entertainer.
Oh! There's Kelsie. I walk over and talk to her about Justin, saying he'd really like to meet her. As I talk to her, I keep seeing Branden's eyes looking at her butt.
I introduce the two, and Branden tracks Kelsie over here.
Kelsie pulls out a rose from that mysterious place.
"Hey, Kelsie! Watch this!" Branden calls over to her before almost falling on his face in a terrible attempt at a new dance move. She doesn't turn to look because she's looking at Justin.
"You're giving me a flower?" Justin asks like he can't believe it--like it's weird.
"Well, yeah. It's a nice gesture," she replies.
"I'd rather not." He turns away, and she makes the rose disappear.
"Oh," she says quietly before walking away.
Branden gives Justin an 'eat sh*t' look and follows her.
What happened?! Now, Kelsie's off somewhere crying and Branden is the one to go comfort her? I don't think Branden is right for Kelsie. She's too nice.
I try to talk to Justin about how he hurt her feelings. He says he feels bad but that he's not going to go out with a girl that brings him flowers.
He walks over and starts chatting it up with Raina.
The whole rest of the evening, I'm in a slump. The only thing that makes me feel better is Claire.
My slump continues until the next morning, and even Dad can tell. He asks me what's up and why I look down.
"It's stupid." I'm not really sure I wanna talk about it with my dad.
"Okay. So, talk about something stupid. How stupid is it?"
I sigh, not really sure why I'm making a big deal out of this. "I wanted to set up the new guy Justin with Kelsie. I thought they'd be great together, but he got all upset when she tried to give him a flower. So yeah. Stupid."
"You're trying to play cupid with your friends?" There's a little smile on his face.
Ugh! I knew he wouldn't get it. "Sure. Yeah. I don't know. Maybe."
"And it didn't work." He wants to make sure he understands me right.
Mom walks in. Great. -.-
"That's so sweet!" she squeaks.
"Mom. It's not sweet. Because Justin was mean to her."
Dad speaks up. "Maybe he really didn't like the idea of a girl giving him flowers."
"Yeah. He said that, but I had hopes. Then Branden gets mad at Justin and goes to comfort Kelsie."
"So you're upset that you weren't the one comforting Kelsie?" Mom asks.
"No!" I shake my head and start shoving food in my mouth. "I just want my friends to be happy."
"Sounds like Branden was being nice. Why is that bad?"
Dad answers her, explaining how I think Kelsie is too nice for Branden. He and Mom chat about it, and I pretty much stop listening, wishing I'd never told Dad a thing.
Parents don't understand how difficult relationships can be. I'm trying to set up two of my best friends, and it's backfiring. For another thing, I don't know why I'm so stressed out about this. It's like I'm in charge of their happiness.
Tonight, we're somewhere different. I decide to just focus on Claire. I still notice Justin doesn't go anywhere near Kelsie.
Branden does, though.
Sigh. I guess I should be happy that Branden is actually smiling.
Maybe Kelsie's niceness will rub off on him and he'll stop being such an ass.
They spend the whole time together. She giggles; he smiles.
Claire likes it.
Saturday night...It's all about Claire.
Wait. I'm jumping ahead here...

More on their date next time!

Yeah, why is he working so hard to set up his friends? Just because he has a girlfriend doesn't mean the rest want to date people. Maybe he should focus more on Claire and worry less about the love lives of those around him.
ReplyDeleteIt's not exactly what he set out to do: setting up his friends. It all started with wanting to get Branden a girlfriend to get him to mellow out and then blew up into this. He's actually subconsciously surprised at how important it all has become to him, but don't worry, it passes. :)
