Chain Reaction 3.1.75: Life With Darrin

Darrin

Brent refuses to go in his room unless someone stays with him, and even then, he doesn't like being in there. He keeps saying "No Brent's room!" That bastard Drake messed him up.
With me being fired and Ivy not starting her new acting job yet, both of us spend a lot of time with him in the living room. He does okay if one of us is around him, but he does even better if more of us can be.
I'm going to be working for Ethan in a few weeks, and Mike is going to try to work his schedule to where he can be with Brent more. Ethan did tell me, however, that if I need to start later,  I can.
For now, it's Ivy and me with Brent, and I have to say... I never thought I'd enjoy spending time with her. I'm obviously off her sh*t list, and I feel just a little better about trusting her around Mike. Plus, she is funny. What's great about it is she's not trying to be, but I can't get over her little quirks like when she's passionate about something, she's all in to the point of mania.

Mostly, we're a family, and I start to hope she never moves out.
Speaking of family, Aunt Em has started getting better with controlling her cursing. One day, she called and begged to come by and see Mikey--meaning Brent. It broke my heart when Brent saw her how he screamed and wouldn't let go of Ivy's leg. Em started crying, but the rest of us did our best to remain calm and let Brent know by our actions that Emily wasn't a bad guy. He's only recently started warming up to her again.
Winterfest is tomorrow, and she and Uncle Alex are coming along with a few others like Charlotte's family.

I love this family. Right now, Ivy and Jarvis are in the living room playing some kind of make-believe kid game that involves a lot of noise. I offered to do the dishes.
I think what I love most is how they accept me--just as I am. Uncle Alex doesn't hate me, even if he agrees I made poor decisions. Mike's dad is like my idol. Charlotte is quite possibly the kindest person I've ever met. Even Grandma Brielle finds something to compliment me on.
I wish my parents were this accepting of Mike.
Everyone is in the living room opening presents, and I'm in here finishing up the dishes when Brielle approaches me.

"So am I going to meet your parents today, Darrin?"
"No. They're, uh, they're not coming." I'm going to their house tomorrow. Alone. They don't even want to meet Brent. She looks at me, requesting more information. "They don't like Mike, Grandma Brielle."
I watch her dumbfounded expression. "They don't approve, I take it."
"Yeah. They won't even acknowledge that I'm married." With any luck, they won't have some woman there with her thinking I'm single and looking. "Don't worry about it," I tell her before she can launch into whatever.
She does anyway. "How can they not acknowledge him if he makes you so happy?"

Fine. She wants to know? I'll tell her. "Because they can't get it out of their heads that I need to marry a woman and give them a grandson. They don't even want to get to know Brent! They adopted me, but they don't act satisfied with the idea of Mike and me adopting in the future, either."
     "That... doesn't really make sense."
"Tuh. Don't ask me to explain my parents." That's just how my life is.

I look at the floor. "I'm sorry to dump that on you, Grandma Brielle."
"Are you kidding? That's what family is for. I just wish your parents could see you for who you are."
I hug her. "Thank you, but we'll be okay."
She steps back and smiles. Then she reaches up and touches my hair. "I like your hair like this. You look hot."
My face burns as she grins. "Uh. Thanks." Mike's grandmother said I looked hot.
She giggles. "Just 'cause I'm old doesn't make me blind to that sort of thing." She exits the kitchen, almost bumping into Charlotte. I pretend to wipe the counters.
"Don't worry about Grandma," Charlotte tells me. "She was trying to make you feel better."
     "Yeah, okay."
"Is it true, what you said? I couldn't help but overhear."
"Yeah." I scowl. Then, feeling like I'm an open book anyway, I tell her, "You know, what I want most in the world is if Mike and I could have a baby. Part him and part me." I smile to hide the pain and toss the dirty rag into the nearby laundry thing. Then I go and join everyone in the living room.

Of course, I love Brent. How can I not when he's the mini Mike? If he ends up being the only child we have, I'll be content.
Over the next week, Mike is off work, so we all have a wonderful time just being a family. New Year's morning, Mike finds me eating leftovers in the kitchen.

"Charlotte called." He starts staring at me with his jaw sometimes clenched.
     "Okay?"
"She and Jarvis want to come by later." He walks over and starts massaging my shoulders. Then he kisses my neck.
"Okay. Sounds like fun. What do you think we should have to eat?" I know he likes to plan these things. It's a chance to show off his level ten cooking skill.
"I'll let you decide. I'm a bit distracted at the moment." He pulls my chair backwards. Then he stands in front of me.
"I wasn't finished." I swallow hard because the look in his eyes makes my insides quake. 'Wild Mike' is here with me in the kitchen, and he's getting on his knees in front of me.
"I think it can wait." He pulls down my underwear and immediately starts devouring me.

My voice sounds breathless. "Sh*t. Oh f--k." I want to scream, but I can hear Ivy upstairs in the hallway, doing whatever. "Mike, please." He's merciless when he gets like this. All he does is moan and start adding his hand. I throw my head back, panting and willing myself to stay quiet.
Then I look down at him. Bad idea. That was almost more than I can take. Throwing my head back again, I fist my hands in his fabulous hair. I can hear Ivy talking to Brent, asking him what he wants for breakfast. No, I can't let them see this!
Mike must hear them too because he gets more urgent in what he's doing. I obey his mouth's command and let go in it, gasping and hopefully not yanking his hair out by the roots.
Quickly, we reassemble ourselves, and I lay my head on the table and desperately try to catch my breath.
Ivy walks in. "Good morning." She must see me. "Is everything okay?"
Mike answers her. "He's just tired." I can hear him smiling.
"Okay. Have you made breakfast? I thought about making pancakes."
"Oh, that sounds great, but don't worry about me. I already ate." He hums as he leaves the kitchen.
     F----------k.

Later, Charlotte and Jarvis come by as promised.

Mike's sisters are great, but I think Charlotte is my favorite. There's something about her that screams kindness, and there aren't enough people like that in the world.
She asks us to have a seat in the living room before we go eat.

"So, Jarvis and I have something we'd like to talk to you about."
--------------------------
I don't often do this, but as I absolutely LOVE Darrin's new occasional hairdo, I thought I'd share it. Candy does an awesome job, and you can find the 'do here. I typically go on huge download sprees and at times forget where I got things, but I had to find this one again because it wasn't in my backup when I want to switch to my Mac. So, I thought I'd add a link for once. :)
